Two years after finishing fifth, Brandon Rene left Safelite’s Best of Belron with a championship.

The Salt Lake City technician edged out Mike Stakes of Phoenix for first place, a $10,000 check and a trip to the International Best of Belron competition in Barcelona, Spain in May.

“I can honestly say that any of these guys could have won and done a great job representing Safelite® in Barcelona,” Rene said. “I just got lucky. I’m kind of sad that it’s over because I’ve become friends with all 11 of these guys.”

Stakes received $5,000 for his runner-up finish.

In the CSR competitions, Angie Miller of Columbus, Ohio took first in the Referral competition, Wendy Powers of Columbus, Ohio was first in Sales and Amanda Kerley of St. Louis was first in the Field. Each received $2,500 in prize money.

Seven Safelite® technicians will take the stage on Saturday in Glendale, CO, to try to claim the Safelite Best of Belron® Rockies Division title.

Learn a little bit about each technician before they go head-to-head this weekend:


Dan Cameron
 – Tulsa, Okla.: After serving two tours in Iraq with the United States Marine Corps, Dan Cameron returned home in 2006 and re-entered vehicle glass repair and replacement. He joined Safelite® as a technician after growing up in his family’s local glass shop. Originally from Springfield, Mo., Cameron is the father of a five-year-old daughter and enjoys fishing and hunting in his spare time.

Terry DewittWichita, Okla.: This grandfather of five is an industry veteran with nearly three decades of vehicle glass experience. In his free time, Dewitt enjoys playing golf, bowling and fishing. He will be entering Safelite’s Best of Belron® for the second time.

 

 

 

 

Todd DullFort Collins, Colo.: After spending nearly 15 years in the auto body repair industry, Todd Dull made the switch to vehicle glass. Now that he has spent the last three years with Safelite® he feels he is ready to compete to prove himself the best technician in the country. In Dull’s spare time he enjoys riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and taking trips with his wife.

 
Tom Johnson – Aurora, Colo.With over three decades of industry experience, Tom Johnson is entering Safelite’s Best of Belron for the second time after placing third in the division in 2009. Johnson enjoys fishing and hunting. He is the father of two and the grandfather of a three-month-old granddaughter. 

 
 

 
Ivon King – Kansas City, Mo.: With less than two years of experience, Ivon King entered the competition to see what it’s like to competitively do his job and to see how he matches up to his associates. In his spare time, King enjoys camping and fishing along with spending time with his family.

 
 


Jason Mayfield
Denver, Colo: Jason Mayfield will be entering Safelite’s Best of Belron® for the third time. This father of two feels prepared for competition with more than 10 years of industry experience and knowing what to expect from past attempts. Mayfield enjoys spending time with his family.

 

 


Ryan TuttleColorado Springs, Colo.: With more than a decade of experience, Ryan Tuttle is entering Safelite’s Best of Belron® for the first time. In his spare time he enjoys taking trips on his motorcycle and dabbles in Frisbee golf. Tuttle is originally from Colorado Springs and is the father of five children.

This Saturday, Las Vegas will be the battle ground for the Safelite Best of Belron® Northwest Division competitors.

These four top technicians will be vying for a spot in the national competition in New Orleans in February:

 
Byron Hill – Las Vegas, NV: Byron Hill is originally from Portland, OR, and the 13-year Safelite® veteran says he has seen it all. He once replaced a windshield installed by a competitor and after discovered only the bottom half was glued to the car. Hill enjoys football and has one daughter, Malaya, 7.

 
Brandon Rene – Salt Lake City, UT: Brandon Rene is the returning champion of the Northwest Division. After placing fifth at the national competition in 2010, Rene is looking forward to this year’s competition. Rene has 15 years of industry experience and still considers every day at work a new adventure. Rene enjoys exercise and being outside. He participates in triathlons, biking and snowboarding.

 
Chris Schwisow – Boise, ID: Chris Schwisow started with Safelite® in April of 2010 after coming into a shop to have his windshield replaced. A quick conversation convinced Schwisow to pursue an opportunity with Safelite®. In Schwisow’s free time he enjoys hunting, fishing and spending time with his 13-year-old son.

 
Brent Sutton – Spokane, WA: After being featured in a Safelite® commercial and proving himself as an actor, Brent Sutton figured he should prove himself as a technician. Sutton has only been with Safelite® for 18 months. He is the father of a three-year-old son and enjoys volunteering, playing drums in his band and riding his motorcycle.

The Safelite Best of Belron® competitions are well underway with the fourth and fifth divisionals to be held on Saturday, Oct. 8 at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, AZ.

Check out who will be facing off in this weekend’s competitions that will test their skills in windshield repair, replacement and side glass repair, as well as customer service.

For the Pacific division, meet the four technicians:


Aaron BowdenSan Francisco, CA: With 11 years of industry experience, Aaron Bowden is a returning Safelite Best of Belron® competitor. Bowden was featured in a Safelite® commercial earlier this year. Bowden is a married father of two and enjoys playing tee ball with his son and working on his house.

 

Nathan DePriest- Sacramento, CA: With 14 years of experience in the vehicle glass industry, Nathan DePriest has spent the last four years of his career with Safelite®. DePriest is the father of one and enjoys fishing and the outdoors in his free time.

 


Ryan LanePortland, OR: A Harley Davidson rider and outdoor enthusiast, Ryan Lane has been with Safelite® for four years. He enjoys fishing, camping and swimming along with spending time with his wife and two children. Lane is looking forward to testing his skills under the pressure of the competition.


Mike Stark
Portland, OR: After 14 years of industry experience, Mike Stark is ready to compete in Safelite’s Best of Belron®. The father of three, Stark’s favorite pastime is time with his family, frequently camping and vacationing.

Battling for a spot in the national competition from the Southwest division are:


Randy Duran –
Albuquerque, NM: With some after hours help from his manager, Randy Duran is prepared for Safelite’s Best of Belron®. After Duran finishes a shift, he meets his manager at the shop and they go through installs together. Duran has just more than a year of experience in the vehicle glass industry but feels his hard work will pay off.

 
Juan “Johnny” Gonzales – Lubbock, TX: After being with Safelite® for five years, Gonzales is ready to compete in Safelite’s Best of Belron®. Gonzales is the married father of three and enjoys fishing and watching football. Originally from Abernathy, Texas Gonzales’ most memorable replacement was when he replaced the windshield on a DeLorean.

 

Logan Manicki – El Paso, TX: A fabrication welder by trade, Logan Manicki was introduced to the vehicle glass industry when a friend of his opened his own glass business. He’s been with Safelite® for three years. Originally from Las Cruces, N.M., Manicki has one daughter. He loves spending time with her and riding his motorcycle.

 

Michael Stakes – Phoenix, AZ: Michael Stakes enjoys mountain biking, dirt biking and hiking when he’s not working at Safelite® in Phoenix. Originally from Chicago, Stakes is married and is the father of one. He came to Safelite® a little over a year ago with four years of previous experience.

The division events are flying by, with three competitions already having taken place around the country. These three technicians are the first to land spots in the national competition in New Orleans:

 

 

 

Southern California: Brad Dedmon, a technician from Bakersfield, CA, has more than 20 years of glass experience. He said he will practice by just doing his job every day and working with trainers to prepare for nationals.

 

 

 

 

 

 

South Atlantic: For Orlando technician Gary Riebesehl, the second try is the charm. It is his second time competing in the Safelite Best of Belron competition. He said he was been working to change and improve his technique since the last time around.

 

 

 

 

Ohio Valley: Bob Hosta, a technician from Cleveland, OH, has more than 20 years of vehicle glass experience and is no stranger to auto glass competitions. He used to compete in the Glass Olympics.
